Samuel Jones, born at Jones tavern, 1735, He was the second child (of 13) and eldest son of Samuel and Sarah (Hubbard) Jones; died 29 Nov. 1796, aged 61; married Hannah Brown, born in Cambridge, 1746, daughter of Elisha and Elizabeth (Davis) Brown; in 1764 she married Isaac Davis, who died in 1775 in the Concord fight.
Samuel was a cooper; his cooper shop was standing by 1760, on the site of the Exchange Hall. He was a solider in the Revolutionary War and lived in Jones Tavern until his marriage. Samuel held several town offices 1762: culler of shingles & staves; 1764: culler of staves and hoops; 1769 and 1773:culler of hoops and staves (and again in 1783). In 1779 he was one of the surveyors of town highways and a warden, and named to the committee to help supply Boston.
Samuel Jones and Hannah Davis were married 30 July 1782. They resided on a farm on Nagog Hill Rd, partly in Acton and partly in Littleton, on the shore of Nagog Pond, of which his father gave 141 acres to Samuel in 1764 and he bought 124 acres, with house and barn, in 1774 from the administrators of the estate of Daniel Brooks.
